Anonymous Ink & Idea is the pseudonym and sobriquet of Rich Knepprath, creative director, illustrator, and printmaker.
Known for emotionally resonant and often darkly poetic concert posters and album artwork, Anonymous Ink & Idea has collaborated with iconic artists including Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Eric Church, Mastodon, Opeth, Melvins, Meshuggah, Norma Jean, and The Chariot, among many others. His visual storytelling extends into film, television, and pop culture, with clients such as 20th Century Fox, CBS Films, Mondo, Austin City Limits, and Gibson Guitars. His work has also appeared in numerous publications focused on screen printing, illustration, and design.
Anonymous began as a way to separate artist from ego, a faceless refuge where ideas could breathe. Today, it serves as both mask and mirror: a name that offers distance, yet speaks with the voice of lived experience. Thematically, the work explores dualities—light and shadow, beauty and grief, life and death—rendered through a symbolic visual language rooted in personal mythology.
“I’ve always felt there’s a golden thread running through everything —something binding light to dark, beauty to tragedy. My work is an attempt to pursue that thread and see where it leads.”
